Dr. J. Bernard Gosevitz

Chair of the Peace Ambassadors Gala

Dr. J. Bernard Gosevitz is recognized for his contribution as a Medical Primary Care Physician as well as for his philanthropy and fundraising initiatives in medicine and Canadian Nature preservation. He is a native of Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa U Faculty of Medicine in 1971, winning the Gold Medal in Medicine among other awards. He has served on several boards and especially the University Health Network where he is a member of the Senate.

Presently, aside from Primary Care, Bernard is VP and Chief Medical Officer Emeritus of Rogers Communications as well as Global Medical Director of Barrick Gold Corporation and Corporate Medical Advisor for KPMG. He also is Medical Advisor to Burnac Corporation and is Board Chairman of Good Comfort Care, a new home care company. He has been on the Board of the Canadian Wildlife Foundation and has served as its Chairman. Bernard also sits on the Board of Arts in Muskoka Chautauqua.

In the past, Bernard was Medical Director of CTV/Bell Media, Post and Sun Media, and Marks and Spencer Canada. On the UHN Board he was Board Champion of The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Arthritis, Men's Health and Mental Health. He is a member of several Medical Societies including the Canadian and Ontario Medical Associations, Heart Failure Society of America, American Association of Family Practice, College of Family Physicians of Canada and Ontario, and Ontario Occupational and Environmental Association.

His remarkable career was honoured at a 2013 fundraiser in support of The Campaign to Cure Arthritis at Toronto Western Hospital, with Eddie Greenspan as the Master of Ceremonies and the late Honourable Brian Mulroney Prime Minister of Canada, the first roaster. Over his more than 50-year career, he has worked on international medical projects around the world, including Sudan, Tanzania, Chile, Peru, Argentina, and the United States.

Bernard has been called to treat internationally-renowned personalities such as Henry Kissinger, among many others. His patients read like a Who’s Who of Canada. His accomplishments, charitable activities and medical qualifications are too numerous to list. As IPA Director, Partnerships and Development, and Chair of the Peace Ambassadors Gala, Bernard brings his leadership and organizational skills to the Gala's and IPA's fundraising initiatives in support of the IPA Global Peace Ambassadors & Cultural Exchange Program, committed to promoting peace, health and culture diplomacy.
